The National Pan Hellenic Council (NPHC) will hold a summit in Washington, DC on Saturday, May 21, 2011. The location will be the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel at 2660 Woodley Road. This "solutions based" summit will have engaging discussion in three content areas.1) Education which will focus on teacher quality and the achievement gap of minority students; 2) Health which is focused on obesity and HIV/AIDS, and implications of health reform; and 3) Workforce which will address retooling the workforce and entrepreneurship with a focus on minority businesses, as well as Technology/Outsourcing. National renowned leaders and professionals will serve as panelists and come prepared to provide solutions to address specific problems in the content areas discussed. The panelists will represent a cross-section of government, private sector corporations, national organizations and distinguished community leaders, who are all considered experts in their respective fields. The goals of the Summit are two-fold: a) to provide concrete solutions in each of the content areas above so that community based organizations and leaders are equipped with strategies that can be implemented; and, b) to encourage the members of the NPHC to proactively seek opportunities to become catalysts for change in our communities as well as to become active ambassadors for positive change. We are inviting NPHC local council member organizations from across the United States. In addition to NPHC council members, we are inviting the following from the District of Columbia and nearby cities: community leaders; parents; college students; professionals in the health field; education (educators & administrators K-12 and higher education) and labor professionals/organizations; and, federal, state and local government officials.
